For the 2’s, it couldn’t have been a better day. A young side; for many it was our first encounter with the other place, making it both an exciting day but also one of much trepidation. Whilst Oxford took the first goal (their only of the match), they were certainly not of the same fighting spirit as the Kingies. With the defence being as strong as ever, any further attempts on goal by the navies were thwarted- special mention goes to Carly for some stellar saves and goal clears.
At the other end of the pitch, the attack were clicking with some great charges on goal particularly from Bella and Jessie causing a number of free positions. Commendations to Talia for getting knocked over multiple times yet never letting the hussle and speed slide. The score was equalised by Kate who scored off a free position and marked a turning point for the attack. Indeed by half time the Kingies had found their rhythm scoring a further 4 consecutive goals within the last 10 minutes, and making the win more obtainable.
After a measured and focused half time talk the team went back on excited to win. The second half saw some great draw control from Grace leading to Cambridge possession the majority of the time. Attack continued to excel with Sophia and Issy making some great cuts and as a unit becoming more inventive in their play particularly through picks. Oxford were certainly lagging, with goalie clears becoming a frequent turnover, recognised and acted upon by Cambridge. Defence continued to press with no goals conceded in the second half, making the final score was 11-1 to the Kingies.
